Surface is excited to announce the exhibition for our thirteenth East Midlands Graduate Project, EM23: Vessel.
Vessel encapsulates the eclectic approaches of this year’s selected artists in a single space. Diverse materials and beliefs are deployed and interrogated in a range of creative practices including cyanotype drawings, installations, paintings, and multimedia sculptures. From the post-abstract compositions of painter Luke Narroway to the disturbing living electronics of sculptor Jay Dennis, and the intricate paper sculptures of Tinaye Makuyana, winner of the Primary One to Watch award, Vessel contains visual practices and contemporary concepts that promise a truly engaging and thought provoking exhibition.
The East Midlands Graduate Project supports Fine Art graduates across the region as they make the transition from university to the professional art world. Vessel is the culmination of a four-week residency undertaken in the gallery’s top-floor Project Space. Eight of the region’s most exciting new graduate artists have built on their successes at university and developed their practice to produce original work for this year’s exhibition, EM23: Vessel.
EM23: Vessel opens in the Main Gallery. As always, there will be a donations bar with ales from the local brewery, Pheasantry.
Artist Talk and Tour: Saturday 11th November, 2pm
