Chaz Howkins has been creating daily self-portraits every day since January 1st 2021. 730 Daily Self-Portraits represents the first two years of this ongoing project. Howkins now intends to continue creating a self-portrait every day for as long as they are able :)

Surface is proud to present Timestamp, a group exhibition that brings together the work of five distinctive artists. Explore how their artworks interact, discover unexpected connections, and reflect on the impact of their gathering in Nottingham.
A spectacular range of interpretations and reflections on the intricacies of human experience: figurative paintings, line drawings, bold dioramas and pop-art prints, encounter futuristic landscapes and curios from the Ersatz Museum, while Maximillion descends into realm of dreams to further extend the scope of our visual experience.
Surface is pleased to welcome Homecoming, a solo exhibition by Nottingham-born artist, Richard Mynett. A combination of new figurative and abstract landscapes, Homecoming considers the spaces that surround us and looks to challenge our perception of the natural environment and its inhabitants. These works are reminders, prompts and signs that we exist as part of this world, not apart from it.
Return of the most anarchic, the most spectacular show in town: the Nottingham Street Art Festival. This hugely popular exhibition supports and promotes Nottingham’s vibrant alternative art scene by showcasing some of today’s best local talent.
The return of our annual studio artist exhibition. Layered promises a thought-provoking journey through the artistic layers of each studio artist’s individual practice — explore and peel back the intricate layers of meaning embedded within.
Don’t Lick the Walls sees the return of Nottingham Trent University’s BA students as they explore a range of photographic approaches including digital, analogue, and artificial intelligence. The exhibition also explores female empowerment, sustainability, mental health, illusion, and the complex layers of intersectionality.
The Street Art Festival celebrates and supports Nottingham’s thriving alternative art scene, showcasing some of today’s best local, national, and international street art. Up to six pieces can be submitted per person and all work will be hung salon style, packed from floor to ceiling. All submissions will be displayed as long as you can get them through the door.
Surface is now accepting submissions for our fourteenth East Midlands Graduate Project: EM24: Nottingham’s only graduate residency. This opportunity supports Fine Art graduates from across the region by offering a free residency and exhibition in an independent contemporary art space to kick-start the transition from university to professional art world.
For the first time, Surface welcomes Nottingham Trent University’s first year Fine Art students, and an exhibition entitled, Serious Leisure.
The 8 Collectives is the latest culmination of collaborative work by second-year NTU Fine Art students. The exhibition occupies both floors and consists of eight distinct responses to the space, to collective concerns, and to each other.
This March sees the return of the annual Surface collaboration with Nottingham Trent University, the 13th NTU Festival: The Island. Surface is delighted to present Homeland, a touring exhibition by the photographer and visual artist Paulina Korobkiewicz. The exhibition addresses themes of political identity, belonging, memory and representation among migrant communities in West Bromwich and Hyson Green, the most ethnically diverse neighbourhood in Nottingham.
