Paul Henegan / Gerry Henegan-Barr / Peter Lumley / Melody Marshall /
Kellymarie Palfrey / Olivia Wileman
Surface is pleased to announce the return of our annual studio artist exhibition: Layered. Showcasing a collection of works by six of our current studio artists, this exhibition delves into the concept of layers, both in a literal and metaphorical sense.
Layered promises to be a thought-provoking journey through the artistic layers of each studio artist’s individual practice. From the digital and film photography of Peter Lumley to the assembled sculptures of Paul Henegan’s collected fragments, and the experimental multi-media work of Melody Marshall, each piece will invite you to explore and peel back the intricate layers of meaning embedded within.
The exhibition provides a space to explore new layers of meaning created in the relationships between the six distinct art practices. Whether you are drawn to the evocative and abstract compositions of Olivia Wileman’s paintings, the expressive portraits of Kellymarie Palfrey, or the stories told in Gerry Henegan-Barr’s mixed-media fabrics and sculptural ceramic tableau, Layered weaves together a rich tapestry of artistic expression, diverse perspectives, and overlapping narratives.
Artist Talks
Saturday 15th June, 2pm-3pm
Artists Paul Henegan, Gerry Henegan-Barr, and Kellymarie Palfrey will guide you through the layers of their work, divulging on the conceptual inspirations that influence their artistic practices, whilst presenting the ways that varied and individual approaches have become united and intertwined within the walls of Surface. These talks are informal and there will be time for questions throughout.
Layered opens in the Main Gallery. As always, there will be a donation bar with ales from local brewery, Pheasantry.
