Surface is pleased to announce the return of our annual studio artist show: Resurface.
After a year governed by fears and uncertainties, our eight creatives resurface with the first physical show of the year, and a wonderfully eclectic mix of sculpture, painting, textiles, and digital projection. See how the concerns of the past year have shaped the work of our studio artists. From Henegan-Barr’s 3-D tableau of figures immersed in a sea of trouble and struggling against the tide, to Lumley’s paintings in polaroid pink (a summer's evening or the end of the world?), and Newton’s emergence reimagined and represented in drawing, Resurface reveals an intriguing journey made by one and by all.
Resurface opens in the Main Gallery in conjunction with Cauldron Born: How Long I have Thirsted to be a God Among Men, a solo exhibition by Amelia Seren Roberts in the Project Space. Bernie Rutter, winner of the Derby Print Open, will be exhibiting in our alternative space, Le Loovre, with Home, an exhibition featuring a series of collaborative works with Vitor Azevedo and Yuka Jourdain. As always, there will be a donation bar with ales from local brewery, Pheasantry.
