Building a Memory Wall with Attiya Javed
Saturday 26th October, 2-5pm
In this workshop, you will be working together with textile artist Attiya Javed to create a memory wall. The memory wall will be constructed using a combination of drawings, embroidery, and recycled materials. The workshop is deeply rooted in storytelling, and will reflect each participant's cultural journey and personal story. Each drawing will be individually stitched, with its own unique story brought to life through the layering of mark-making, and the reuse of paper. You will incorporate organic colours, using natural dyes such as coffee, walnut, turmeric, and katha, to enhance the depth and texture of the artwork. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their experiences through drawing and embroidery. By incorporating old photographs, pages from books, and organic materials, they will help weave a shared narrative that honours both individual and collective journeys.
All other materials will be provided. No prior experience is necessary.
